Phone Calls...

When I'm writing, I don't take phone calls and I don't call anyone. But I constantly get folks who can't understand that. Just this month, I've had about ten different people ask me questions, but insisted that I had to call them. When I tell them to send me the question via email, they freak, as though my work is some hobby and therefore I should have plenty of time for them. It ain't. It's hard enough for me to write a book with a looming deadline, but to interrupt whatever concentration I have with a long convo (meaning that the convos always last over an hour) about your idea for a book, just gets on my nerve. And I'm a cat who rarely gets mad or aggrevated. But this is getting me ticked. Anyway...

I'm back to writing tonight. It's 11pm and I think I'm going to write through the night. I had a very nice (and very expensive) dinner with the wife. She had a taste for steak, so we went to Ruth Chris in Beverly Hills. Didn't know that a steak could cost that much. Either way, I had the greatest company, and I got to say a quick hello to Billy Bob Thornton, who passed us on his way out. Ah, the perks of living in La-La land. Rubbin' elbows with the stahhs!

Same here--just on GP. hehehe Nah, but seriously, on a personal level, I have these very short phases where I actually feel like talking. But mostly I don't answer. My sons even KNOW not to answer the phone if I don't pick it up myself so they don't have to tell anybody I don't feel like talking about the nothing they're calling for. I hate shootin' the ish. TRULY irks me.

See...there goes my phone ringing now!! That's exactly what I'm talking about. (Somebody was really calling too. Dang, that timing was kinda spooky! lol)

I think I really do hate phones. Maybe it's because everyone in my family worked at Pac Bell or AT&T at one point of time. I don't know. I rarely use my cell phone, to the consternation of my wife. I only have it because I need to have a cellie while on tour. I never understood the profiling folks who have to have the phone on their ear at all times. If folks want to get in contact with me, email me. I'll even respond within minutes. But as for calls to the crib, I haven't picked up the phone all week, and won't.

Anyway, about two week before NYC and DC, so I'm trying to get as much work done as possible. I've got to update my word count because I have been working a bit. Telephone free that is!

I completely feel you on this--I got out of the habit of answering my phone while writing my dissertation and I kind of like no longer feeling obligated to respond to the ringing. It definitely helps the productivity and makes the conversations I do have on the phone more enjoyable.
