Today...

My painter went completely awol on me. He was supposed to finish up the outside, and then start fixing a small hole in my ceiling (making sure to not mess up my newly cleaned carpet). But after working for an hour, he cut out. Ghost. Gone. Adios. Not even a knock on the door. So I have realtors coming to assess the house on Friday, and my boy still has work to do. Making things worse, I leave for Columbus tomorrow for the Delta convention, so I have to trust that he's going to get things done right. Boy, do I hate contractors.

I went back and read all of your posts. You seem very dedicated to your craft. I'll keep reading...

P.S. Notre Dame Academy 1983 :)

Ha! Loyola High 1984! I know a few folks from ND. Jessica McGruder has a child at St. Bernadette, where my son goes. I haven't seen Karen Lewis for eons, but I remember her from ND. I think that's about it.

Jess and I worked together @ Audubon. She just moved to ATL. Karen got married in December (Danyel was in it) and she was just a beautiful bride! That was my circle so I know I know you, I just have to remember. I had the biggest crush on Brian Alameida...

Brian Alameida! That's a real blast from the past! I may have to look him up in the handy dandy Loyola directory. lol

I was wondering what happened to Jessica. We'd talked at the beginning of the last school year, and she told me that she was thinking about moving to ATL. I'm glad she was able to make the move.

Karen Lewis was a very cool sister back then. During my junior year at Loyola, my buddy and I came to ND (lettermen sweaters and all. We were trying our best to impress!) and asked the sisters on campus to come to our party. It was pretty rare that we had a black party at Loyola, so it was a big deal. If I remember correctly, Karen helped us get on the campus. That's cool she got married.

I'm actually writing a script about that time in Los Angeles from the black perspective. I think it was hella fun, but no one has explored it.

Okay, I am having so many flashbacks now. Uncle Jam's Army @ the Convention Center and Veteran's Auditorium. Parties in the park (Cheviot Hills).Walking in Westwood on Friday night after all the games. Cuda club girls @ Fairfax. QtPies. Remember that?

Please write that script. Black Catholic schools in L.A. have a history all their own.The late '70's/ early '80's history of which we were a part of.

The late '70's/ early '80's history of which we were a part of held a sort of innocence that we stopped seeing as the dawn of crack cocaine came about in L.A around 1984-85.

All of that. I drove my slammed 1960 red VW Bug around town after having worked at the Carl's Jr. in the Fox Hills Mall. I danced the "freak" at an Uncle Jam's Army party at the LA Sports Arena (Ten thousand party people, featuring Bobcat, Egyptian Lover! as the KDAY commercials would go.) and damn near couldn't drive home because my leg kept spasming. I roller skated at Midtown, and then attended the year end St. Bernard beach party. We chilled by the Crenshaw mural, watched the breakdancers in Westwood, and then went to Flip in Hollywood. Oh yes, I'm writing that script! lol
