Hire David Gregory...

For the past few months, I've been complaining about the sycophantic Chris Matthews, and his Hardball program. He's been skewing so overtly Republican that it is hard to watch. Fortunately, he's out this week and White House correspondent David Gregory is filling in for him and the difference is amazng. Here is a reporter who listens, knows what he's talking about and actually CORRECTS the propagandists who constantly spin lies. What a breath of fresh air. I hope someone at MSNBC is watching.

I agree with your casting choice but I doubt MSNBC could woo him from his post as a White House correspondent. Not that the network who has such bright ideas as hiring Tucker Carlson for a ripoff of PTI and Around the Horn could have such an original idea.

I have to believe that someone at MSNBC is noticing that trying to be Fox Lite is not working. Although I hate Fox, at least they don't make any bones about being a conservative news operation. On the other hand, MSNBC basically wants to be on the side of whoever is winning. The only person I trust is Keith Obermann, who is the only person on the station who asks the questions that beg to be asked.

On CNN, we have them pulling out the ancient Jack Valenti as the "liberal" commentator, and I'm embarassed for their management. What, Walter Mondale wasn't available? Valenti is so out of it, all he does is repeat the conservative line each and every time. I want his agent, because if they can get Valenti on a show, then anyone can get on.

What's funny is that I moved from CNN to MSNBC in order to have a younger skew to the days events. CNN had turned into a bluster fest with Crossfire (loved that delicious Jon Stewart moment) and the rest of the folks. They couldn't be beat for their coverage of live event, particularly international, but you could see that they were getting long in the tooth.

I should have seen the writing on the wall when MSNBC canned Phil Donahue. Now, Donahue was old, and I think he was passed it, but he also provided a completely opposite view of what was happening in the Amen choir for the Iraqi War. I remember when CM was on Imus, and said that the reason Donahue was going off the air (as a lead in to Hardball by the way) was because Donahue was too "pessimistic". At this time, Matthews was googling Bush in his flight suit, so you could see the jingoistic Matthews beginning to skew right. I'd love to be a fly on the wall of the Hardball staff. lol
