Showcase Results...

Hey y'all, MEN OF THEIR TIMES won honorable mention in our annual UCLA Screenwriters Showcase. To recap, each year we anonymously send copies of our scripts to industry professionals around town, and they give us notes and grade them. There are five winners and five honorable mentions, and we usually submit about forty to fifty scripts. So that's pretty good for my first script at UCLA. Now I want to read the notes to see what people found strong and what they found weak. I mainly entered because I wanted those notes, but who knows? Maybe I can get a manager from this whole deal? The winning scripts are performed on stage in June, and it's a fun time to hang out and watch the work of your fellow students. Two of my boys, Dan and Phil won, so it'll be fun watching their scripts.

Congratulations! Honorable Mention is exactly what you want. You get the recognition without the horror of having to throw together a staged a reading of your script in just a few weeks. Now you can relax and enjoy the rest of the quarter!

I think you're right, although it would be cool to hear my words acted out. But I intend on drinking lots of beer and having a great time at the showcase. It's really going to be fun watching Phil's script read because it's an animation. lol

Thanks Jay! As for the Clippers, nah. lol I'm a diehard Laker fan. I didn't even know LA had a second team until last week. LOL!

Congrats. Last year Michael Colleary's speech was inspirational. It's one of the few nights I felt we got our due as writers. Plus our event has the rep of having the best food.

Lawrence, I just heard about this. Congrats, man. Really, that's huge when you're dealing at that level. Winning Showcase is how I met both my manager and lawyer by the way. (Judi was a judge). I don't think she did it this year but I will ask her. Best wishes and give Mike W. my best. Great teacher, mentor, friend. Kudos dude. Rock on. JGTH
