The Question of Race...
Have you ever noticed that when a black person is beat senseless by white folks, that the news anchors always ask the victim whether they think the incident was a racial incident. I always thought this curious. Everyday, reporters draw conclusions about everything under the sun. Whether Karl Rove will be indicted. Whether Bush knew there weren't any weapons of mass destruction. Whether or not the avian flu is going to kill us all. But when it comes to race, the reporter always wants the victim to make the decision. And if the black victim knows they are in a no win situation. If they say it is racial, then they will be accused of playing the "race card" (an illegitimate principle anyway). If they don't say it is racial, then it's like the anchor can breath a sigh of relief. White folks are off the hook! But why can't the anchor draw their own conclusions? Why can't someone say that we rarely find tapes of random whites people being beat down by black folks? Or that to the untrained or trained eye, it appears that a black man was being kicked, maimed, dragged, etc. by white people? Because a whole lot of commentators sure as hell declared black folks criminals from the looping of the looting during Katrina. I don't remember any of them asking those folks whether or not it was stealing. They just declared it so.

I find it odd that a city that has/had a majority black population still has 3 cops that would think they could get away with jumping an old black man in the street and get away with it.
Aside from the camera men, there were a couple of college students who witnessed the entire thing and were harrassed as well when they complained. The victim says he doesn't think it was racially motivated (which I think is wishful thinking) but the cops did seem to just be out of control and bullying everyone who questioned them.
It's sad. They could have killed that man.
My name is Lawrence Ross and I am a white person in America. I was beat up by black kids over and over in my youth. I was basically picked on for not being black and that I was a whitey and that is all that mattered to them. They stole my money all the time. I still believe in a color blind society and my opinion is that blacks need to believe in themselves more then expecting special treatment as if they cant' compete with other minorities who have to compete. It seems like expecting special treatment is what causes the problems of the black community.
Slavery was not an American idea, it was Black African idea that was exported to America. Slavery still goes on today in parts of Africa.
I am an American not a European American. Why do blacks have to include the hypen, African-American. Why? Is there something more special about Black Africans that I am not getting.
Anyway, I treat all people as individuals and not by color or what country their ancestors are from. We are all Americans and should act like Americans.
United we stand, Divided we Fall.
I believe that ridiculous statements should be allowed to stand on their own. And so...
